Reactionary

We must center our hearts, our eyes, our ears upon His movement, His voice, and His heart.

The prophetic is not to be reactionary. No matter what is happening around us. Period. We will see things, of course, and feel the ground shaking. We will feel it all and sense the incompatibility with heaven in our bones. But to prophesy, we must work to quiet all the other voices except His. We must center our hearts, our eyes, our ears upon His movement, His voice, and His heart.

Here is a section from my "Reframing the Prophetic" book, found in the chapter on "Prophets and Artists:"

“We can learn so much from the way artists live and breathe the message of God. Many of them live in such a way that they are almost constantly pregnant with a partially formed revelation of beauty, the pain and brokenness of our world, or a longing of what could be. They are often holding something within their soul for weeks, months, or years at a time, well before they put their hands to the creating process. This is similar to many prophets who walk around with a partially formed message from heaven rumbling within them. They seem to search for the missing pieces throughout their every moment, looking for God around every corner, seeking His presence within every mundane moment of their day. Many prophetically gifted people can find themselves holding something in their spirit that isn’t clear (yet) in their minds. Even so, it reverberates through their entire body day after day, gradually taking shape. For many prophetic voices, myself included, this has become a way of life. Even though I’m not artistically gifted, I relate to the artist’s process because it feels familiar with how the Holy Spirit leads me. I often feel like a pregnant woman walking around with something from heaven forming within me that is still growing and taking shape, ever-so-slowly."
