The part that’s up to us is our attention and our love.

Learning to listen is different than trying to hear. When you’re learning to listen, the focus is on the position of your heart, the openness of your soul, the awareness of your senses. When you’re focused on trying to hear, it’s very easy to slide into striving for an outcome. 

We must center our hearts, our eyes, our ears upon His movement, His voice, and His heart.

I have confidently interpreted God only to find out how terribly wrong I was, more times than I want to admit. Just as the disciples were utterly confused when Jesus told them to “eat my flesh” we will regularly find ourselves befuddled over perceived actions or inactions of God.
