Artists speak through their art.
Painters paint what they have to say. Dancers express their message to the world through their movement. Singers put melody to their poetry and communicate the movements of their soul, and musicians use their instruments to speak volumes.
Today, let’s meditate on the beautiful reality that God is an artist. He has spoken and will continue to speak through His creation. ALL of His creation.
He speaks through a leaf falling from a tree, a storm that’s brewing above.
He speaks with a pause, a sigh, a silence. He speaks in the sunlight that bursts forth when He laughs. He speaks in the face of strangers, in the labored breath of the dying, in the wonder of children twirling.
Listen to all of life.
And you will find Him.
Learning to listen is different than trying to hear. When you’re learning to listen, the focus is on the position of your heart, the openness of your soul, the awareness of your senses. When you’re focused on trying to hear, it’s very easy to slide into striving for an outcome.
Don't just listen for words, looking for information to employ. Do not turn His intimacy into a transaction, a ministry, a strategy. Listen to know Him, with a heart that's in love.
This listening adventure will will bring us face to face with the call to love, over and over again. Why? Because Love listens deeply.
If you learn to listen, you will learn to love.
